Physics is a dynamic subject
which deals with the study of matter and deep core of the universe. Sure enough,
for majority of people it is just a boring subject but believe me it is not the
boring subject that you think. Many people/students don’t like physics is
because they are taught in that way. We all are to be parrot the formulae and
theories of different physics general and that is why we hate this subject. To love
or be interested in a subject or a particular idea you need to understand
deeply about it. I myself hated physics for a long time but when I started to
understand the very laws of physics, I was very curious at it and then I started
to get pretty great marks on it.
So, what did I do? Here are some steps that you can use:
STEP NO. 1
Don’t
write notes while teacher is explaining.
Well, first of all I didn’t write any notes regarding on physics class because I had a book related to our syllabus. Many of the students write notes while the teachers are explaining and end up understanding nothing.
This is one of the main reasons that you aren’t good at it because you
can’t remember anything and you can’t even memorize the theories. So, to
understand you must listen to the teachers before copying the notes. If you end
up copying the notes then you can’t focus what your teacher is saying and your
notes won’t even help you during your exams. Try to understand what the
teachers are saying and then you can copy the notes later. To be honest I never
liked copying notes so I had no notes on physics but I did have my book, so I used
to read only my books because it had lots of details.
STEP NO. 2
Try to read books rather than notes.
If you have a book which is exactly related to your syllabus then you don’t have to waste your time writing notes. Books contains lots of information and it is very easy to read for many people. I always used to bring physics book in my class and when my teacher is explaining something I look on my book and try to understand with them.
Many of my friends were busy writing notes
and they didn’t understand anything but since I had a book, I understood exactly
what our teacher was talking about. So, if you have a book in the corner just
use it because it is very beneficial. In my opinion, you should work smarter rather
than harder because I understood the entire topic on the class and can revise
easily at my home but my friends had to copy the notes and later understand it
by themselves which is very hard. So, I was always one step ahead of them.
STEP NO.3
Learn
from Various sources.
Sources like; YouTube, Reddit, Facebook are very great for understanding physics topics. Whenever I had a doubt on something, I ask my teacher first and if I didn’t understand that I simply go to YouTube and search that topic for clear understanding.
There are lots of videos on YouTube which can literally
help you to understand beyond the syllabus. So, by watching the videos you can
learn it in a different and easy way. Most of the students watch online videos
or research the questions on google to get better understanding and to even
learn more. You can be very comfortable by just sitting on your home and still
learn the courses online. You can also do various online courses on Coursera if you want to learn beyond your topic and be interested in it.
STEP NO. 4
Always
try to ask teachers.
If you understand the lecture given by your teachers then of course you would have some doubts regarding on that topic. So, don’t be afraid asking those questions, because the questions that you ask can help you to understand more and also be more curious. I asked lots of questions to my teacher and I understand many ideas after that.
Your questions not only impress
the teachers but helps you to be more confident. If you have any doubt and you
ask your teacher to help you then you can even create some of your own ideas. For
example: I had a question related to a numerical, so I asked my teacher about
that then I understand so clearly about that specific numerical that it gave me
confident to solve every other numerical related to that topic, and I even created
my own short cut formula to solve that question.
STEP NO.5
Use
Set books/Model Questions if possible.
If you want to ace the physics exam then you can use the model books or the set books which is related to your course.
I had a book name “Old Is Gold” which was related to my syllabus. It consists lots of questions with numerical that I can practice. More importantly, each question in that book were very important, lots of questions from that book were asked in my examination.
So, if you have any book which is important for the examination
point of view, you can surely use that book and by practicing it you could be
able to solve different questions and if you have any doubt then you can ask
your teachers. The books are specifically made to help students learn so make
sure you are using it.
If you don’t have these books no need to worry because it just
consists of questions which can be learned by consulting teachers or notes or
any other, even past examination questions which can be found easily.
STEP NO.6
Numerical.
Numerical questions are hands out the most difficult and tricky questions in exams. To solve one, you need to understand the topic very clearly. For many students this is hard but for some students it can be a piece of cake. All of us can solve the numerical it doesn’t require special abilities or some genius brain it only requires dedication and practice.
No matter what, you must
at least try to solve those questions. If you feel numeric is hard for you then
don’t just leave it because it carries great marks in exams, so just try to
solve it even if you can’t. Numerical questions are the sub side of your
lessons, so if you don’t understand your topic then it is very hard. Numerical questions
require two things:
1. Concept of Understanding:
First of all, you need to understand the topic before you
head to solve the numerical because if you understand the topic, you can easily
understand other numerical. Many students do this common mistake that they neglect
the theory and directly head out to the numerical that is why they failed to do
both. So, before heading out to numerical questions please go for the theory first
and try to understand it very clearly by memorizing some important formulae. If
you understand the entire topic clearly then it will be very easy for you to practice
the numerical questions.
2. Practice!
Yes, this is the most important part to be better at numeric.
You must practice to understand the questions. Many of us practice for few and
leave it there but it isn’t enough. Since, the numerical questions are sometimes
tricky, you need to understand from the core and for that you need to practice.
You can practice from books or consult your teachers if you want. If you finished
the theory topic then you can directly head out to numerical and practice it
for long.
The reason I am focusing on practice is because the concepts
on many numerical are related to each other. For instance: if you understand or
practice the electricity numerical then it will come handy in magnetism. So,
they are related to each other and if you don’t understand one part clearly
then it is very difficult to understand the other part. This is why you should practice
good enough so that you can understand clearly, don’t just leave the questions
after 2,3 practices. There isn’t specific number of how much should you
practice but you should practice until you are confident enough. Believe me, if
you can do numerical questions on physics then you can understand every part of
the chapter.
Lastly, if you follow these steps, you can understand physics and start loving it. It is not compulsory to follow these steps because many of us have our own technique but the key thing to understand physics is by going deep and practice. If you’re curious at something then you can understand it no matter what the disturbance. My say is that don’t think physics or other subject as a subject, try to connect it with you and enjoy it then there is nothing in the world that can stop you.
